can you connect to the PC's shared printer with the local guest account rather than the domain account

net use \\192.168.101.5\ipc$ /user: PCNAME\guest

is hq the domain?

Net use ... also connects to the IPC$ (interprocess communication share). This is so called the null session connection, which allows unauthenticated users. The basic use for connecting anonymously is: net use \\ IP address\IPC$ “” /u:””. For example, if this is typed in the command prompt: net use \\192.168.1.101\IPC$ "" /u:"", you would be connecting to the share IPC$ of the network 192.168.1.101 as an anonymous user with blank password.

Yes, hq is the domain. These are primarily DCs that hold the collection point for the print management. As you know, there are no local accounts on DCs. Since the wifi clients will need to connect to the DC to download the print client, I am assuming it's the domain guest account. But I seem to get the same results whether or not I specify the domain.

RE: ipc$ = I believe that's the reason for this connection step in the documentation. Once I verify that the guest account has access using the net use command, then the link on our webpage that points to the server and the port the software is listening on, and the path to the client software, will just download and install on the client.

All that is moot if I can't get the guest account to connect to a share.

They are not responding to my ticket either. Big surprise, hiuh?

can you share a printer off an XP machine or non-DC and try your net use

Well, I know the guest account is working because of some other unintended consequences that we got calls on this morning.

I know this can work. I wonder if I'm missing something because these are DCs. Heightened security maybe? I hope I don't have to upgrade the software.
